Rave chiptune is quite an unusual mix but I think it kind of works?
The breakbeats are pretty good, but that main synth is obnoxiously shrilly. And the complete lack of any bassline makes the song just kind of fall flat. These are minor flaws in what's otherwise pretty decent drum programming, but they heavily impact the song.
This style of dubstep/complextro is incredibly nostalgic and charming to me. My only critique is that the mixing is somewhat wonky and could probably use some more mid and high frequencies throughout the drop.
The song has somewhat of a slow start, the static noise definitely gets a bit annoying after a while. And I think the bass on the drop might be a bit too low to register on all devices (might want to add a bassline around 80 Hz or so). Other than those minor nitpicks, the beat goes hard and the song doesn't overstay its welcome.
this is really good :) the drums could really use some more punch though
The first 25 seconds or so had me worried that this was going to be some MIDI soundfont music, but the rest of the song is great. Fire beat.
Thanks!
Really nice beat. On a more technical aspect, this does sound a bit overcompressed at points, for instance at 0:43 (the instruments sound a bit flat). The bass is also a bit lacking, I'd recommend using a sub bass with some kick drum sidechaining to really make the beat stand out.
The melody itself is good (if you're going for something like a rap beat), but the mix sounds like a MIDI. None of the instruments really have a lot of "punch" to them, if that makes sense, and I suspect that this is because they're just oneshot samples. Still, I'm sure that with a bit of tweaking this can be made to sound great.
Sounds really good! Though it could use some compression and perhaps some sub bass if you really want to commit to the DnB sound.
